Tom Clancy's games are the best in my opinion if you want an interesting story with challenging gameplay.
My favorites are the original Splinter Cell, (PS2 Version, it's available on steam), Blacklist, and Chaos Theory.

You should check out all these games below, they are the best I've played in my lifetime.

Manhunt 1/2 along with The Warriors (All PS2, Rockstar Games)
Any GTA
Red Dead Redemption 1 w/ Undead Nightmare DLC.
Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories (just for the theme song)
Tom Clancy's The Division
Red Dead Redemption 2 w/o the online, I prefer the story mode.
Elder Scrolls Arena / Daggerfall / Morrowind / Oblivion / Skyrim + DLC's
State of Emergency (PS2, another Rockstar classic)
Fallout 3 / New Vegas / 4 / ( Haven't played 76, not great reviews though )
Nightmare Creatures (PS1, awesome game if you can get past the graphics)
Any Tekken / Soulcalibur / Mortal Kombat ( Highly recommend Soulcalibur 3 for the PS2)
Pokemon Blue / Red / Yellow ( Gameboy or Emulator )

Although it is a somewhat dated post, I will still recommend a few games that I feel like anyone should check out:

Nier:Automata: My favourite game of all time. It has the creative genius of Yoko Taro, which if anyone has played Drakengard or Nier, they would know what to expect (Although you would have surely played this one if it was the case). It also features gameplay created by PlatinumGames, who also created Bayonetta. Actually, just go play all these mentioned games.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines: Sadly one of the only games Troika Games got to release. This one is a great RPG created by some of the minds behind the orginal Fallout.

Mount & Blade: Warband: If you like assembling armies and fight out epic battles across a big battlefield, try to woo a noble lady from her father's hand (or impress him so much that he basically asks you to marry her) and trying your best not to be captured by bandits along the way, then I recommend checking out this gem. The modding community is also great with this one, especially A Song of Ice and Fire.
In the distant future.
In a land abandoned by man.
Machines wage a continuous war.
Unaware of the futility of their actions.
