0.3.DL Discussion: Mapping

Post by Mmartin » Wed Nov 08, 2017 5:55 pm

What rules do you think should be followed when implementing custom mapping into the server containing objects that are modeled and not in-game natives?

Do you think official factions should have their own custom graffiti on walls?

Do you have any concrete ideas?

Denz, the almighty God of environment modding, will be more than happy to contribute to the cause.

Maybe few exclusive houses / apartments where it's in the main world where you can see in and out.

Official factions shouldn't get their own graffiti because areas change with time and so do the gangs inside them... if anything add default R* graffiti so the packs age with time and still give immersion. Along with that I'd like to see mapping polled (or factions in x area consulted) before it gets added to server so nothing unwanted is introduced like the massive beach hut which was installed and removed a while ago.

Instead allow factions to request whatever else they want as long as it fits the area and is realistic. We could make buildings dirtier and more damaged, map in custom HQs, install more houses and add parks etc etc etc.

You should implement custom maps on areas that has major influence on the server; Ganton, Crystal Gardens :), El Corona, etc. It'll boost RP and immersion.

Official factions should be automatically allowed to request custom maps.

Non-official factions that have showed stability and longevity should also be allowed to motivate and inspire them keep it pushing.

Maybe add street name signs? It would take a while to map them all but when finished it would turn out fucking awesome considering we've our own street names now.

Other road signs would look great as well.

Add Vice City and then make a script where you can fly to Vice City when going to the airport.

I like this idea a lot actually. Maybe spend $50,000 to get teleported to another world for your character's holiday or something. It'd be nice to have Vice City native roleplayers too. Isn't there a Vice City world in GTA SA's files? Someone tell me some good news.

Idea should be trashed, we don't have near enough players to populate even LS. VC would just be another LV or SF. Go there for your holidays.

Building a proper VC would cross the available new objects' limit, so no.

New. Houses.

Las Venturas and San Fierro feature an incredible amount of housing that is simply not used. Locations that come to mind immediately is Ocean Flats in San Fierro and then the Redsands West/East & Rockshore West housing in Las Venturas.

Identify and locate locations in the city that are unused and abandoned. The movie studio in Market, for example, and replace these areas with housing. Middle-class housing especially is the most starved in Los Santos. The ghetto has a lot of low-end property all over the east side and the west has plenty of high-end mansions in Vinewood, Temple, Marina, Richman and Santa Maria however the only middle-class houses(Not apartments) that come to mind immediately are a small area of Marina. Give the west some love.

Adding a trailer park or improving a pre-existing trailer park would be great use of space too.

It's incredibly likely that custom placed housing would need to be edited in a modelling program first to ensure a snug and bug free fit, including cutting away at excessive pieces of model, but this will just cut down on file size in the end so it's at no loss.

Private gated estates spring to mind. Places for the super-rich to hang around in private without the poor mingling with them.
