What happened to supporting biz's?Surreal wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 9:59 amHey everyone,
there are still a few projects being worked on that you might hear more about soon. From my neck of the woods, I'd like to comment on the exploration of new role-play opportunities: for example, the privatisation of clinics and hospitals, the privatisation of ambulance services and other government contracts, like Port Authority and Sanitation, being explored again. This means that State Government are trying to push through the ability for players to try their hand at these areas themselves (when they were traditionally restricted to the Fire Department, etc) with support from State Government to make it feasible. It's all about trying to turn those traditionally "NPC" or other roles into something players can try if they feel it's what they're interested in. There's a few opportunities for players to sink their teeth into that weren't presently being acted on. If you've got any cool ideas, feel free to message Flemwad and I about that. Keep an eye out if you're interested in keeping up to date with other projects.

Subject: Vacant Businesses — Lack of Roleplay
Surreal wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2016 1:09 pmI know some of you keep mentioning that we need to find a way to make opening a business largely profitable to the owner, but I don't think pumping more money into the server is the right way to go about it nor a long-term solution. We want money out of the server, if anything. If I owned a nightclub and were available constantly at peak, I wouldn't be opening it for the money. It's nice to open up a role-play environment to the server and see it in action - at least for me. Money is essentially meaningless on the server once you've purchased a house, a car and have enough in the bank to comfortably do whatever you need to for new and existing characters (no more than a million, really).
My counter to that is free advertisements, cost-free leases, perhaps looking at increasing the entrance fee (within boundaries) and encouraging everyone to get involved with the system and role-play with businesses. If we were to look at adding a /furniture system within lease businesses, I would ensure that it is also cost-free to the lease holder so it doesn't send them out of pocket. That way, any money that you make from an opening would be profit, and there isn't really any out-goings unless you're employing people with a financial focus and not a focus on role-play. You'd get to keep the business under your name so long as you actively interact with it and open it to the public on a regular basis. I believe a few people have already said that's mainly why nightclubs, restaurants and other businesses that require several employees are best for faction development where money doesn't matter to the employees.

That's a post from 2016. Leases have already been worked on and introduced with that in mind. Since we have a functional point of contact for properties, you should drop Apophis a line if you have any bright ideas or suggestions for the lease scheme or for businesses in general. He's the dedicated in-game lead looking at the property system and everything that includes — houses, businesses, leases, etcetera.
