The obvious solution would be "XY offers to repair/repaint your vehicle for the price of XXX Dollars, accept/decline the offer with Y/N", and if he wants 10k for new colour, to smack him one and ask again

I pretty agree with the idea and Bully's commands are good too but I would make a limit for them to prevent any abuse.

I agree.
Plus, let it still inform us how many components it's going to need to do X service so that we wouldn't offer them fixes without making profits or with a loss.

Mechanic types /service ID 3 alone to know how many components it needs and how much is the default price.
Then the mechanic would be able to /service ID 3 amount yes.

You missed the crucial law of economy: supply and demand.
There is apsolutely nothing wrong with the current system of mechanic script!

True problem is in vehicle script.
Do you know that from Las Payasdas (Las Venturas, Northwest) to Blueberry (Los Santos, Northwest) is only 3 miles scriptly?!


OOCly dfference would be closer to 3000 miles!

So vehicle system should be updated only! And only in numbers/figures.
With current system you can drive your brand new car (eng 100 bat 100) more then 1000 miles on clock without engine life droping below 95 percent. Thats 300 times from Las Payasdas to Blueberry.

If numbers would be changed:
-miles driven multiplied by 10

You would pass 10000 miles for 300 times from Payasdas to Blueberry and your engine life would decrease 50 percent insted of five (multiplyed by ten).
In that case mechanic service would be more often needed with leads us back to rule of economy!

Today 10 players daily need mechanic service. From that 100, only like 10 actually need engine repair or battery recharge. With new miles meter (multyplied by ten) 200 people would calll mechanic service 555. 100 of them would actually need mechanic service (/service 3 and /service 4)!

So imagine how much would mechanic RP on LSRP improve! We would have more mechanics, better and more often payed and customers would actually even might have to wait in line to get mechanic service! Wait day or two perhaps, depends. Maybe hour, two three sitting in garage drinking beer from local store!

With that, automaticly would increase demand of mechanic replace parts. Automaticly truckers would have more work to do, so Solarin Autos can produce car parts.

Better mechanic payment, more profit for local business such as stores or bars, more work for truckers.

All that just by simply multypling miles meter...

Having mechanics receive money automatically after completing work has no place on LS:RP.

1) Once the scriptwise work is done, nothing else needs to be said and no deals need to be made. Everyone rushes to their car and drives off. It incites people to just complete the fix scriptwise and to be on their way, the less interaction the better. This is a roleplaying server.

2) It prevents scamming where it would otherwise be possible. If it's done on the side of the road and the mechanic didn't park the truck in a way to block the customer from easily taking off, what's there to prevent him from doing so, or bullying the mechanic into a discount?

3) MOST IMPORTANTLY, it implores mechanics to do repairs and paintjobs on the side of the road which is mindboggingly stupid. There is no feasible way in which one would would do a thorough engine repair on the side of the road. It's just not possible, engine repair isn't an oil check or changing a flat. You need a specific toolkit not available on your tow truck for this. It's also illegal as it's obstructing traffic and dangerous in its nature.
Paintjob has to be done in secluded ventilated areas (garages) because the process of sanding, applying primer and new spray paint is highly toxic. You can't do it wherever you please, especially not out on the road.
As a side effect, it also encourages mechanics to drive like complete imbeciles racing to the customer, disregarding any common courtesy or traffic laws.

I used to roleplay a mechanic years ago when we had the old system where the customer had to pay manually. Not once was I scammed out of my money, not only because people were nice to appreciate mechanic roleplay and paid generously for it, but also because there are safeguards preventing you from being scammed.
Do your repairs and paintjobs at dealerships (Commerce even has a garage). It's way less messy to roleplay driving the car into a garage and using a set of tools to do the repair or paintjob. It's a crime-free area, you can't be scammed there and it makes way more sense than roadside repairs.
The only thing you're meant to do on the roadside is attach the car for a tow, or change a flat tyre.

The only other career on our server that takes money from people automatically is taxi career, where it makes sense because there are no other safeguards. With mechanic job it shouldn't be automatic.

As for the post before this, miles aren't a problem because people damage their bodywork or engine life through non-RP driving and/or lag, enough to balance it out with map being scaled down.

When you do nothing and get paid-.. where is the logic, it's not alright. Mechanic should get a bonus when he repairs or DOES SOME WORK and not like the current system. Everybody got the mechanic job yet you need to beg them to come.
