The Report Post Function

Post by Gerald » Tue Apr 20, 2010 8:19 am

Now more than ever have I been seeing things happen within this forum that have gone unpunished for weeks on end. This may be due to the fact that no one cares or knows of the abilities that an average person on the forum has. LS-RP, being the large community that it is, requires an unimaginable amount of behind the scenes work to keep everything the community has to offer and everything that branches off the community running up to par. Giving a rough estimate here, I would have to say we have anywhere from 300-400 active forum users within the community. Having such a small team to manage such a large quantity of people can rather difficult. However, provided that the members of this community were to use the functions provided them upon registering, it can make things much much easier on our part (that being the Forum Moderators and the admin team).

Ladies and gentlemen; I introduce to you the report post button. It looks like this.

Image

This button is to be used for reporting posts which you find vulgar, hateful, wrong, offending, or against the rules in any way shape or form. When you press this button and type in the correct reason, it will highlight the topic that the reported post is located in in a bright red which makes it easier for us to see and in turn deal with. Provided we don't know that that post is there then we aren't able to deal with it as we may not ever notice it. Given that there is over one million posts on the forums since May 16th of 2007, it can be rather difficult to sort through each and every one of them and determine who deserves a warning and who doesn't with such a small team at hand. Remind you that you should not go scanning through old topics just to find posts to report but you should report more recent posts, preferably within a 1 month period of the posting and the reporting date. I hope this post cleared that up for you, thank you for reading and have a nice day.

People should use it more often, I'm using everytime I'm needing it and help will come in a matter of time.

Done it once or twice but since I didn't see any change, back then, that is, I thought it wasn't used and stopped using it.

This looks really nice though and, knowing it actually works, I would obviously use it more often when necessary.

No "omg you should get banned for that post" and bullshit like that. Report it instead of whining to the guy.

Good job, Gerald. I love you.

Amazing idea, now we can report flamers that are just here to ruin and lock good topics.

I used to use the Report function a lot but I noticed a lot of the reports I sent in were "handled" but nothing was done. They were clearly breaking the rules yet the moderator did nothing. I find that it's the same with the police, they're there when you don't want them but never there when you call. It could have been old moderators that simply weren't doing their jobs but after about ten reports, I find that hard to believe.

You get notified via E-mail.

Also I've used this three times. The first time a long time ago. Nothing happened. But the two other times a forum moderator looked at the reports and dealt with the problems.
I think this is a great thing that is simply underrated.
