Ray Lane ~ From 'trash' to 'fish' to a whole 'nother dish

Out of cigarettes once again, Ray walks over from his shabby trailer to his rusty, undermaintenanced bike in the White Devil-reigned trailer park. He had heard that his favorite pack of cigs' was available in town from a pamphlet advertisement. A special kind of treat for his lungs.
He makes his way over to Los Santos, with some form of hesistance since he knows what the area is known for. Blacks... A 'trailer-trash' kid doesn't have much to look for there. Still he wages this over the possibility that he might have a chance to get his fix.
Arriving there, he parks his bike and makes his way over to the shop that advertized the special pack. Somewhat swiftly scanning the tabacco section, he notices that none are left. In anger he grunts to himself as his trip seems to have been a waste of time. When he turns to his right in disappointment, he sees that the person next to him, holding a shopping basket, had taken the last pack. A black middle-aged man stands with his back towards him. He quickly eyes the person and his surroundings, contemplating wether or not he should take this last possible chance.

After somewhat of an arbitrary brainstorm, he proceeds to try his luck and stands closer to the man and leans into the shopping basket with his hand, trying to go unnoticed. He reaches for the pack, snatching it somewhat clumsily, looking up at the man to see if he detected him. Straight eye-contact is made, a rush of adrenaline goes through Ray's body as he tries to sneak the pack of cigs' behind his back.

-"The fuck do you think you' doin' man?!"-The man widens his eyes as he catches his first glimps of Ray, observing his shocked pose. Ray looks back at the man with slight trembling knees as the sudden adrenaline rush catches him off-guard. He can see tattoos covering a decent portion of his face, a gangbanger. Just his luck. As a means to appear innocent, Ray plays a'fool and says: -"Wh- what? What's wrong?". The man quickly looks into his shopping basket, immediately noticing the pack is missing. Must've been /his/ favorite too.
In this minimum span of time, Ray decides to make a run for it, through the narrow space between him and the man. As the man's eyes try to find Ray's, he notices the body of the lean individual quickly shifting to his left side as he tries to escape from him. He quickly throws his weight into Ray's direction, holding his left foot and arm in front of him to stop him in his path, letting the shopping basket fall onto the floor.

Ray is stopped in his path due to a superior weight mass blocking his mobility to move. The cabinet he tried to squeeze through falls to its side, making a noise of great volume. Ray clumsily follows the same path as the cabinet, falling to his knees whilst now being entangled in the man's grip.
Ray tries to flail his arms as he panicks, hitting the man in the nose with his elbow. -"Motha'fucka'!"- is heard throughout the local shop, as the man flinches back from the hit. Ray takes this opportunity to scoot away from the man, with no real succes. His lean body gets dragged back as the man grabs him by his foot, a black fist beginning to form above his face. Ray shields his face with his arms, trying to roll to his side instinctualy, to defend himself.

The first punch falls down onto his head, scathing it only as the black man is in a rush of adrenaline as well. Ray shouts "Stop! I'm sorry!" as he begins to take the beating of the man, mostly to his torso. -"You picked the wrong nigga' you lil' white punk!"-. Ray tries to fend him off with his feet, aiming for the man's shins. With some hits and misses, the man moves away from him momentarily. Ray quickly but clumsily gets to his feet, only now getting a good look at the man's posture; a medium-buffed angry lookin' black fella', ready to stomp his head in. In an almost instant reaction, Ray says: -"Look man I'm sorry! Here, have the pack back!", throwing the pack in the man's general direction as his hands shake. The man looks uninterested, fixating his gaze on Ray instead. -"You' gonna pay fo' this cracka'!"-

The man starts rushing towards Ray as his anger consumes him. Ray gathers all his courage, if any, and pulls his arm back, preparing to try to punch the man. Unexpectedly, a big thump-sound is heard behind him as Ray feels something hard, maybe organic, hitting his elbow just as it reaches its full momentum from pulling back. The black man's eyes widen as he halts his dash towards Ray, quickly fading away in one of the shops isles, as Ray had shifted his gaze towards his right, trying to indentify what made the sound before.

In full adrenaline, Ray turnes around, still assuming his 'fighting' stance. His eyes widen as he sees that his eyes meet with a police officer, holding his now broken nose. Before Ray can say anything, a second officer rushes at him, tackling him to the ground, bruising some of his ribs badly, his lean figure being confronted with a weight mass numerous times larger than his. -"GET DOWN!" says the officer as Ray is in agony on the filthy isle floor, almost unable to grunt in pain as his ribs damage his ability to speak. -"You are under arrest!". Ray's breath would've increased if he would be physically able to, instead a wave of shock passes through his body at the hearing of the officer's words. As the officer quickly indentifies the state of his direct surroundings, he comes to an apparent conclusion; -"-For vandalism and assaulting an officer of the law!".

In the following hours that pass, he is treated like a 'well-bred' criminal with high intentions of disrespect to authority and his surroundings. While he is actually no more than some white-trash amateur. During interrogation, it seems all odds are against him. Ray's previous fighting stance doesn't better his situation as it higly suggests that he intended on assaulting the officer. As for witnesses; the locals probably remained silent from identifying the gangbanger as they didn't want to get involved.

The final decision was made; state prison, for yet undetermined time.

An arbitrary decision had led to an arbitrary conviction. Ray now does time for 'assault on a federal officer of the law'.

Under direct pressure of the AB' on the inside, his lean figure, weak spine and unseasoned violent-side need to man up quick in order to make it through.

Upon first arrival, Ray knew he was in for it. There was no way out, not for a long time. Even at first glimps, the inmates of the San Andreas Correctional Facility were measuring him, calibrating him, for better or worse. Mostly the latter. Though luckily for him, the whites were running the prison, which meant he had a somewhat guaranteed ticket of survival. Given that he wouldn't fuck it up. He was not fully aware of this at the time though, so every face that he saw was an avoided one. He was, after all, at the bottom of the foodchain as a fish in a tank full of sharks. A fish that doesn't even eat the seaweed.

After the first couple of introductionary set of procedures given by staff, he was given the standard-issue equipment and put in his cell. One without a cellmate. -"Thank Christ"-
he thought as he sighed. Being here was bad enough, but to have some criminal in his cell with him? It would've been too much.
As he places the sterile clothes onto the clanky bed and sits down. The first reality-check reaches him. This is it. He is actually inside of a prison that's notorious for its inmates. And he's still on observation, he hasn't even gotten his sentence yet.

First yard time, all cells are opened and people start pouring out of the cells. Ray awaits his turn to avoid the crowd. He notices however that groups of whites gather as they head towards the doorway. One of them looks over at Ray as he stares outside of his cell. Ray immediately breaks eyecontact, half-panicking in his mind. -"Fuck!.."- . He doesn't want to be on their bad side from Day 1. He waits until he can see them vanishing from the corner of his eye and follows their tracks towards the door, creating enough space between him and them so he can go about unnoticed.

Entering the yard, his eyes squint due to the harsh desert sun. A wave of heat flows through his body as the warm air dissipates where he stands. Covering his eyes from the sun with his hand makes him able to catch a glimpse of the yard layout. Almost instantly it is quite obvious that the inmates are grouped up in areas, categorized by race. Before he has time to look for the whites, an inmate moves past Ray and is headed towards the opposite side of the yard. Ray quickly makes the connection between him and the group he saw on the inside. He starts walking in his footsteps to follow him, noticing suddenly that they are walking past the blacks on his left. -Shit...- , he thought. Ray tries to play it cool and bows his head somewhat, trying to go unnoticed, following the stranger in his tracks. A few steps will do it. As he raises his head, he can clearly see the white group of inmates on the benches up ahead. His heart starts beating. The first encounter...

RPing with this faction has hands-down been the best RP experience in my time here on LS-RP.

---

Having my character undergo that transformation of personality almost entirely based on fear was something completely new and something I'd recommend to anyone to try. Yes, actually RPing fear /not/ as a necessity of realism but instead as a character base is very, very intriguing.

Of course without all the people intimidating me etc., the development could've never happened, so RPing with you all has been a key addition to all of this.

Document and never delete it. Never know when a sneaky little detective might want to slip that into a casefile.
